Domination is the best in the area of

Converting units.

Converting units.

Gain control of an enemy unit in an adjacent square. If the enemy unit resists the Domination attempt, the caster loses the promotion. The base Resistance chance is 10%.

NOTE: You cannot choose which target to Dominate if there are more than 1 enemy unit adjacent to the caster, the game does this automatically.

Strategy[]

  • One common method to make use of Domination is to adopt the Council of Esus in order to obtain access to Gibbon Goetia, which is a Hero mage unit with Channeling III. Have him take the Mind IMind II, and Mind III promotions for access to Domination, and save all the following promotions. If Gibbon ever fails a Domination attempt, simply re-take the Mind III promotion to give him access to Domination again.
  • Although Acheron the Red Dragon may be Magic Immune (and thus immune to Domination), the Sons of the Inferno that will also be present in the city are not. The Sons are mage units that have access to Channeling III, which do NOT count against your maximum limit of 4 Archmages at any one time. Thus, by Dominating several, you can gain access to a large number of Channeling III casters that can cast devastating spells en masse upon an enemy, guaranteed to be more than any single opponent can field against you without using a similar strategy

(NOTE: The following legacy "strategy" advocates simply reloading the game upon a failed Domination roll. This does NOT work in Multiplayer, and many players of FFH2 find the "strategy" of saving and reloading the game in case of a bad dice roll to be in bad taste.)

If you get this promotion save before you use so you can reload if it fails.  Chances are it took your mage dozens of combats or hundreds of turns of gaining XP to get access to this spell, while powerful, it is too easy to lose because by late game lots of units are spell resistant.
