After seeing the damage a fireball does on land, it doesn't take much imagination to consider keeping a powerful spellcaster aboard an attack ship.
Strategy[]
Consider keeping a small stack or two of these ships (guarded by more powerful conventional ships) around to provide naval and shore security. If you want to go overboard with the spellcasting, note that the barges have cargospace 1, which can allow them to carry a caster (e.g. a Cultist for Tsunami or a Mage with another Fireball or Maelstrom).
A large stack may completely substitue your fleet and provide a very slow, very powerful mean of attack from the sea. A 12 stack may move 24 units and provide 12 fireball in support, effectively wiping out any resistance on sea and coast.
Support of 1-2 man of war for defence and 1-2 galleon for efficent transport is appreciated, and Fair Wind are much needed to compensate the slow pace.
